Hockey players Michkov and Yurov will remain in Canada for a 10-day quarantine

Hockey players of the Russian youth team Matvey Michkov and Danila Yurov will remain in Canada for another 10 days in quarantine. This was announced on Thursday, December 30, at the Russian Ice Hockey Federation.

“Michkov and Yurov remain in quarantine for 10 days. The team will depart today with a change in Frankfurt and will arrive in Moscow on January 1, ”the TASS press service quotes.

The federation also clarified that for the purposes of epidemiological safety, since the players were in contact with the sick, the meeting at the airport was prohibited.

The cancellation of the youth ice hockey world championship due to outbreaks of coronavirus in several teams became known on December 29. The competition was supposed to end on January 6th.

The World Youth Championship kicked off in Canada on December 26, 2021. After a few matches, three teams received a technical defeat due to the positive tests of the players for the coronavirus. Among them are the USA national team in the match with Switzerland, the Czech national team in the match with Finland and the Russian national team in the match with Slovakia.

The Russians were credited with a technical defeat in the match against Slovakia due to a positive test from the forward of the Russian national team Matvey Michkov. At the same time, his father, Andrei Michkov, called his son’s positive text a provocation, since the second test showed a negative result.

On December 30, the President of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), Luc Tardiff, suggested holding the tournament in June or July. Tardiff stressed that the issue of holding MFM-2022 is important for young players, for their careers, as well as for fans. The President of the International Ice Hockey Federation added that the matches already played within the MFM will be replayed. The host country is still called Canada.
