The Swiss, who had been dominant for a long time, only had to tremble at the finish of their 3-1 (2-0) victory against Hungary in Cologne on Saturday and can go into their next match on Wednesday with their chests held high, against the Scots, who lost their opening match to Germany 1-5.

Kwadwo Duah (12th), Michel Aebischer (45th) and Breel Embolo (93rd) shot the 2021 European Championship quarter-finalists to a well-deserved win against the long-harmless Hungarians, who at least kept things exciting thanks to ex-Mattersburg striker Barnabas Varga (66th). However, a second goal was not scored, meaning that the difficult duel with the DFB team on Wednesday is already a game of fate.

Exactly one week after the 1:1 friendly draw against Austria, Switzerland appeared completely different. The “Nati” set the tone from the start and was already celebrating in the 12th minute, or rather after the VAR had intervened. Duah’s goal after a beautiful through ball from Aebischer had initially been disallowed for offside. However, it was only after a delay that the Ludogorets Razgrad legionnaire was able to celebrate his first goal in his second international match.

With the lead behind them, the Swiss skillfully circulated the ball and, if necessary, quickly won it back. Hungary was unable to gain control of the game and had to be happy not to be further behind. Ruben Vargas was unable to capitalize on Milos Kerkez’s bad pass and was stopped from a few meters by Hungary’s goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi (20′).
