The previous record was held by Russian Dmitri Kirichenko, who opened the scoring against Greece on June 20, 2004 during Euro 2004 after 67 seconds of the match.
Despite that bad start to the match, Italy managed to quickly equalize with a goal from Alessandro Bastoni (11) and take the lead with another from Nicola Barella (16).
Earlier, the Spanish forward Lamine Yamal16 years and 338 days old, became this Saturday the youngest player in history to play in a Euro Cup matchin La Roja’s 3-0 victory against Croatia at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin.
Yamal, Barcelona’s new star, started and played 86 minutes, when he was replaced by his clubmate Ferran Torres.
“I am very happy for the team’s victory and for the debut. We are already thinking about the next game,” he said on Spanish television after the clash.

The winger surpassed the previous record, held by the Polish Kacper Kozlowski, who was 17 years and 246 days old when he played against Spain in 2021.
Accompanied by Nico Williams and Álvaro Morata, the young Yamal went from less to more, with increasing participation in the team’s game and executing the cross that Dani Carvajal finally converted to seal the game with the third goal just before the break.
“The idea was to give space, anything to help the team. We came out with a lot of confidence, we are a very effective team,” added the teenager.
