Mats Hummels and BVB are going their separate ways. After a total of 13 years in Dortmund, the defender’s move to Italy is apparently taking shape.
After his departure from Borussia Dortmund, Mats Hummels could soon move to the Italian Serie A. As several media outlets have reported, the central defender is set to move to AS Roma.
The contact between Hummels and the Italian capital club has recently intensified, reported the newspaper “Gazzetta dello Sport”. According to the report, the 35-year-old German could receive a two-year contract in Rome with the option of an extension for another season.
According to the report, the parties have already discussed details of a possible collaboration. Roma is currently urgently looking for reinforcements in its defense. And Hummels also confirmed that he could imagine a move to another European country. In principle, Roma is prepared to pay the German a similar salary to that at BVB. But Hummels could also make concessions on salary during the negotiations.
The defender, who was not nominated for the European Championship, is said to have also received offers from Saudi Arabia. However, a move there is considered unlikely, as the 2014 world champion had already ruled it out. Recently there was also speculation that AC Milan was also interested in the German.
On Friday, Borussia Dortmund announced that Hummels’ expiring contract would not be renewed. Hummels won the German championship twice with BVB. Most recently, he and the Ruhrpott club lost to Real Madrid in the Champions League final.
