The captain of the French team, Kylian Mbappé, suffered a broken nose in the final minutes of the match that his team won 1-0 this Monday against Austria in the Euro 2024, as confirmed by the French Football Federation (FFF) after the meeting.
The 25-year-old, one of the tournament’s biggest names, suffered the injury when he collided with the shoulder of Austrian defender Kevin Danso as he jumped to head.
He was substituted near the end and left the stadium in an ambulance to undergo X-rays.
“Kylian Mbappé suffered a broken nose during the second half of the match between Austria and France this Monday in Düsseldorf,” indicated a statement from the federation.
“The captain of the French national team was first treated by the medical staff and Dr. Franck Le Gall, who diagnosed a broken nose. Diagnosis confirmed during radiological examinations at the Düsseldorf hospital.”
“Kylian Mbappe has returned to the base camp of the French team. He will undergo treatment in the coming days, without immediately undergoing surgery,” the letter concluded.

France faces the Netherlands on Friday and Mbappé is doubtful for that matchup, a blow for France.
“A mask will be manufactured so that the number 10 of the French team can consider resuming competition after a period dedicated to treatment,” the FFF said.
Such are the good feelings of Mbappe who was encouraged to joke about the fact on his personal X account, where he asked for a suggestion on what type of mask to use for his match within the framework of the second date of group D of Euro 2024. A new sign that he does not plan to give up of the competition.
