Bundesliga: Transfer rumors: Mittelstädt hopes for his VfB colleagues

Several professionals from VfB Stuttgart are being courted by the competition. European Championship participant Maximilian Mittelstädt hopes that the runner-up’s team will largely stay together.

National soccer player Maximilian Mittelstädt is only following the many transfer rumors about his colleagues at VfB Stuttgart from afar, but apparently not without concern. “It would of course be a shame if we lost players,” said the full-back before Germany’s second European Championship group match against Hungary in Stuttgart. Japan’s national player Hiroki Ito has already moved from VfB to FC Bayern Munich. “I can only guess what the situation is with the others. I’m currently only following it in the press,” said Mittelstädt.

Winger Chris Führich and defensive leader Waldemar Anton, who are in the German European Championship squad along with Mittelstädt, are also among the Swabians’ potential transfer candidates. Anton has recently been increasingly linked with Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund. BVB is also said to be courting Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy.

Mittelstädt said that they not only played successfully last season. They also “grew together as a team” and built an “extremely strong framework”. He hopes that many of the players will stay. But the runners-up have also shown that they can deal with absences – such as those caused by the Africa Cup of Nations, the Asian Cup of Nations or injuries. If a player leaves, we have to “make sure that we compensate for it again.”

Mittelstädt himself is apparently not considering a possible transfer. His focus is currently only on the European Championship, says the 27-year-old. “The best thing would of course be to return to Stuttgart as European champions.” Mittelstädt moved from Hertha BSC to VfB a year ago, has developed outstandingly since then and has a contract until 2026.
