European Football Championship: Second yellow card: Tah banned from European Championship round of 16

Now it’s Jonathan Tah’s turn. The Leverkusen player receives his second yellow card in the last European Championship group match against Switzerland. The national coach has to re-plan for the round of 16.

Jonathan Tah received his second yellow card of the tournament in the European Championship match against Switzerland and is now banned from the national football team’s round of 16. The Leverkusen player was cautioned in the 38th minute by referee Daniele Orsato from Italy for a foul on Breel Embolo.

He was also shown a yellow card for a foul against Scotland at the start of the tournament. In addition to Tah, Robert Andrich, Antonio Rüdiger and Maximilian Mittelstädt also went into the match in Frankfurt with previous charges. Before the Switzerland match, national coach Julian Nagelsmann had stressed that he would not take any impending suspensions into account when making his line-up.

“I don’t care about the yellow card situation because I trust the squad. The players should give it their all until the rule bans them. And then another player will come in who does it just as well.” In the round of 16 on Saturday, whose opponent will be decided by Tuesday evening at the latest, Tah could be replaced by Nico Schlotterbeck or Waldemar Anton.

At the European Championships, players must sit out one match after receiving their second yellow card and then again after receiving their fourth. Individual cautions are cancelled after the quarter-finals, so that no player cannot be absent from the possible final due to a yellow card suspension.
