Long-time sports reporter and TV commentator Günter Zapf has died. As his employer DAZN announced on Monday evening on X (formerly Twitter), Zapf died at the age of 66. Thoughts are with his family. There was initially no information on the cause of death. Commentator colleague Florian Hauser had already said goodbye to Zapf.
Günter Zapf was a versatile commentator
With the death of Günter Zapf, a well-known voice on sports television has fallen silent. The Munich native, who was also a football player for the Munich Cowboys, commentated on WWE wrestling matches for around 20 years from the early 1990s. He also commented on NFL American football games for various broadcasters and also reported on baseball and other sports. “Thank you for all the moments, your time and the advice – it was an honor!” wrote Hauser in his farewell post.
