2. Liga: Klose gets started with fan applause and new signing in Nuremberg

1. FC Nuremberg is starting its preseason preparations. The focus of the first training session on the pitch is of course the new head coach.

Accompanied by friendly applause from the expectant fans, former football world champion Miroslav Klose led his first training session at second division club 1. FC Nuremberg. As the successor to Cristian Fiél, who has moved to Hertha BSC, the 46-year-old is to develop the traditional Franconian club back towards the Bundesliga. In summer temperatures, more than 1,000 spectators came to the club grounds to experience the start of the preparations.

“I want to work,” said Klose at his surprise presentation as FCN coach. His goal was to “be successful as quickly as possible and get the fans behind us.” Under Klose, who has signed a two-year contract, the team is expected to do much better next season than it did recently, when it finished twelfth.

New arrival from the Czech Republic

There was another new signing for Klose at the start of training. Czech midfielder Michal Sevcik (21) is moving to the “Club” on loan from Sparta Prague. “Michal is a strong and technically skilled player who radiates a lot of joy in playing. At 21, he also still has potential for development, which we want to get out of him in the coming season,” said the new FCN sports director Joti Chatzialexiou. The first pictures of the new signings were taken with Klose to mark their debut.

Another professional, 18-year-old striker Stefanos Tzimas from the Greek champions PAOK Saloniki, is also set to join FCN on loan. Klose said that they still need to add more up front. The Franconians and new coach Klose will kick off the new season in the second division at the beginning of August.
