Arjan Malic is leaving SV Guntamatic Ried and is moving to the reigning champions and cup winners Sturm Graz for a reported transfer fee of around half a million euros. The OÖN first reported on the Graz team’s interest on June 18th. On Tuesday evening, nachrichten.at reported that the transfer would be made official on Wednesday. “Four years ago, the club started a path in which the academy was given a special status. With the transfer of Arjan Malic to a Champions League participant, this path is now bearing its first fruits. Ried is currently one of the best places for young players who want to make it into big-time football. I am happy for Arjan Malic, who has worked hard for everything in his life and was with us in Ried for ten years. I would also like to thank his coaches in Ried for their work,” says Wolfgang Fiala, Managing Director of Sport at SV Ried.
As a replacement, Ried brought in Michael Sollbauer (34), an experienced player with experience of more than 500 competitive matches. Sollbauer was most recently under contract with Rapid Vienna. Fiala: “After Malic’s departure, we wanted to do something in central defense. It was clear to us that we wanted an experienced man with a view to our goals.” Sollbauer is to take on a leadership role and responsibility at Ried. “Sollbauer has already worked with coach Maximilian Senft (near Wolfsberg and Barnsley, editor’s note.) together. We are pleased that we were able to complete this transfer so quickly,” said Senft.
