The crew of the Russian Sotnikov won the Dakar stage in the truck category

On January 2, the crew of the KAMAZ-master team led by Dmitry Sotnikov became the leader of the first stage of the Dakar rally-raid in the category of trucks. The racer covered the distance in 3 hours 53 minutes 14 seconds.

The second according to the results of the race was also the representative of the KAMAZ-master team, Eduard Nikolaev, who lost only 38 seconds to his compatriot. The third place was taken by the Czech racer Ales Loprais, 9 minutes 15 seconds behind.

Anton Shibalov from KAMAZ-master became the fourth, and Andrey Karginov – the fifth.

The first stage of the rally-marathon was held on January 2, its length was 333 km. Dakar will end on January 14. These events will take place in Saudi Arabia.

On the eve, the crew of Nikolaev, who participated in the Dakar race, took first place in the prologue, in the category of trucks. The race took place in the second major city of Saudi Arabia – Jeddah. The prologue lasted 19 km.

The winner of the 2020 Baja World Cup, multiple champion of Russia in rally-raids, Vladimir Vasiliev, said on November 22 that the holding of the World Rally-Raid Championship is a big boost for a discipline that has existed for many years. According to him, “Dakar” is always a lot of sands and dunes, while in Russia there are at least some similar conditions only in Astrakhan.

The day before, the crew of the Russian racing team “Vasilyev Racing” won the final stage of the Russian rally-raid championship – Baja “Quiet Don”. According to the final results, Andrei Zhigunov took first place three minutes away from Pavel Lebedev, who became the second. Vadim Fedotov finished third in the race, followed by Pavel Silnov and Anastasia Nifontova.
