Max Verstappen, who else? The Formula 1 world champion also secured the first place on the grid for the main race just a few hours after his sprint victory at the Red Bull Ring.
Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen will start the Austrian Grand Prix from first place. The Dutchman secured pole position for the race on Sunday (3 p.m./Sky) in the Red Bull with the fastest lap in qualifying.
Just over four hours after his victory in the sprint race, the 26-year-old finished in 1:04.314 minutes, a good four tenths of a second ahead of the two McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. For Verstappen, it was the 40th pole of his career. Nico Hülkenberg drove his Haas racing car to ninth place.
Before the eleventh of a total of 24 races of the season, Verstappen, who also won in Spielberg last year, is comfortably leading the overall standings with a 70-point lead over Norris.
