Germany won an atypical match and is in the quarterfinals of its Euro Cup

Goals from Kai Havertz and Jamal Musiala in the second half qualified for Germany for the quarter-finals of the Euro Cup 2024 by beating 2-0 Denmark on Saturday after the round of 16 clash was interrupted by a thunderstorm. Wait for Spain or Georgia.

The match was suspended for 20 minutes in the first half due to weather conditions.before Danish defender Joachim Andersen turned from hero to villain shortly after the break.

A goal by Andersen was annulled at the request of the VAR due to a minimal offside by a teammate, just before a penalty was awarded, due to a handball that was also determined by the VAR, and which was converted by Havertz in the 53rd minute.

Nico Schlotterbeck had a goal disallowed at the start of the game due to a foul in the previous play, and Germany started strongly in front of an expectant crowd, but Denmark got into the game and came close to scoring in the first two minutes.

However, in the 68th minute, Musiala received a long pass and scored his third goal in the tournament, putting Germany in the quarterfinals.

Germany started the match with greater presence and goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel was forced to make several saves as Denmark struggled to create any type of combination, barely crossing the halfway line in the first 15 minutes.

Locked in deep with a back five just trying to survive Germany’s attack, Denmark were lucky to avoid conceding a goal in the first half hour.

However, the Danes were able to get into the game and Christian Eriksen almost scored on a counterattack before the match was suspended in the 35th minute due to lightning and thunder while torrential rain and hail fell at the BVB Stadion in Dortmund.

The match was interrupted for more than 20 minutes when referee Michel Oliver ordered the players back onto the field for a brief warm-up before restarting and Germany almost scored when Schmeichel brilliantly saved a Havertz header.

Denmark thought they had gone ahead when Andersen fired a loose ball into the box after a free kick, but VAR ruled out the shot. Three minutes later, the VAR intervened again to point out to the referee a penalty by Andersen himself, who accidentally touched the ball with his right hand after a cross from David Raum.

Havertz scored with a drag shot. When Denmark chased an equaliser, they were often exposed to counterattacks and Havertz and Leroy Sane missed good opportunities.

Musiala did not waste his chance and, after a long pass, calmly finished past Schmeichel to secure Germany’s place in the quarter-finals.
