The number of Olympic participants and athletes who tested positive for Corona is increasing: the total is now 106 cases of infection.
Some of the athletes have made their infection public themselves, such as the Dutch skateboarder Candy Jacobs. She cannot start at the Olympic premiere of her sport next Monday. British shooter Amber Hill, Olympic favorite, cannot take part in the competitions either. She tested positive before she planned to leave for Japan, but she has no symptoms. “There are no words that can describe how I feel now,” said Hill. She was “absolutely destroyed”.
After beach volleyball players Ondrej Perusic and Marketa Slukova, table tennis professional Pavel Sirucek is already the third athlete to test positive at the games in Tokyo.
Two states have also canceled participation in the Olympic Games
Because of Corona, the teams from Guinea and North Korea have withdrawn. The Asian dictatorship had already canceled its participation months ago because of “security concerns due to the corona pandemic,” as it was called in Pyongyang.
