Peter Wright leaned his head against the darts board in disbelief, then the touched Scottish world champion fought with his emotions. The 51-year-old veteran nicknamed “Snakebite” defeated Englishman Michael Smith 7: 5 on Monday evening and thus secured the biggest title of the year after 2020. Wright, on the other hand, is back at the top and raised the coveted trophy with force. “I am overjoyed. The longer the game lasted, the more exciting it got. Slightly underdog Smith turned a 2-0 deficit into a 4-3 lead and looked more confident from set to set. After that, Wright improved again. A duel at eye level developed and the most exciting World Cup final in years. In the end it was well over 35 recordings with a maximum of 180 counters.
