He is the big remaining trump card in the driver market for 2025. Carlos Sainz has not yet made up his mind. That makes his life more difficult.
Carlos Sainz is having a turbulent time because of the unresolved question about his employer in the next Formula 1 season. The 29-year-old Spaniard will have to vacate his place at Ferrari at the end of the year for record world champion Lewis Hamilton (39) from Mercedes. Sainz is being talked about as a possible driver for the Silver Arrows, but also as a future driver for Alpine, Williams and Sauber, the designated Audi racing team.
“It does cause a bit of stress and time to think,” emphasised the Madrilenian on the sidelines of the British Grand Prix. “Especially because a lot happens behind closed doors from Monday to Thursday.” A lot of discussions are taking place, explained Sainz. He did not go into details about who and what exactly. “It is more stressful than usual in years.”
Mick Schumacher also dependent on Sainz’s decision
As soon as he is at the track on Thursdays, however, he is 100 percent focused on his work with Ferrari. Sainz is fourth in the World Championship standings before the race in Silverstone. He won the Grand Prix in Australia on his comeback this year after recovering from appendicitis.
Other personal issues depend on Sainz’s decision, such as that of Mick Schumacher. He is one of several drivers like Sainz on Alpine’s list. It remains to be seen when it will be clear who Sainz will drive for next year. “He is a world-class driver,” emphasised Williams team boss James Vowles in Silverstone. They don’t have to make a decision today, however; a long-term collaboration is more important. Vowles does, however, expect clarity before September.
