Berlin: Fan zones remain closed due to storms

Thousands want to watch the European Championship matches together in Berlin on Saturday. But the weather in the capital is not playing along.

The weather is throwing a wrench into the plans of football fans in Berlin. The two Berlin fan zones at the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag will be temporarily closed and evacuated “due to approaching storms and gusts of wind,” as those responsible announced.

Visitors would be instructed to go to safe areas in the direction of the main train station and “under no circumstances to go to the Tiergarten”. Depending on how the weather develops, the fan zones for the Netherlands vs. Turkey match in Berlin could be reopened in the evening (9 p.m.).

Berlin: Football fans march towards the Olympic Stadium

In the afternoon, thousands of Turkish and Dutch fans met to march in separate groups towards the Olympic Stadium. According to police, there were initially no incidents.

However, according to the police, the so-called wolf salute was shown on a massive scale during the fan march by Turkish supporters. Police therefore stopped the march. “A fan walk is not a platform for political messages,” said the police.

The wolf greeting usually expresses affiliation or sympathy.d50f84252c99df9979488d5d998b9612.css” fetchpriority=”high”>
