After the 1:2 defeat against Spain at the European Championships, Kai Havertz shares his thoughts with the German fans. He is also very disappointed.
German national soccer player Kai Havertz has addressed the German fans after being knocked out in the quarter-finals of the European Championship at home. “I am very disappointed about being knocked out of the tournament,” the 25-year-old offensive player wrote on Sunday on the online platform X.
“We went into this tournament with the hope and dream of winning a home tournament.” In Friday’s 2-1 defeat against Spain, Havertz also missed a great goal opportunity.
Kai Havertz thanks fans
The Arsenal FC player expressly thanked the fans of the DFB team, saying that the support in the stadium and across the country had been incredible: “Thank you for supporting us all the way. I am proud of the team and everyone who has been involved in the journey up to this moment. We have a great team and we will come back stronger,” said Havertz.
Substitute goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen expressed similar views. He too was disappointed by the quarter-final exit. “It was a very intense battle for both teams with the happier ending for Spain,” wrote the Barça goalkeeper. “Many thanks to Germany for the unique experience we were able to have and for the unconditional support we received.”
At the European Championships, ter Stegen was once again only left with the role of second goalkeeper behind Manuel Neuer, while Havertz was in national coach Julian Nagelsmann’s starting eleven for all five games. The former Leverkusen player scored from the penalty spot against opening opponents Scotland and in the round of 16 against Denmark.
