The Dane Holger Rune was considered the toughest task so far for Wimbledon title candidate Novak Djokovic.
Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic remains in the title race around a month after his knee operation at Wimbledon. The record Grand Slam winner won comfortably 6:3, 6:4, 6:2 against Dane Holger Rune and thus moved into the quarterfinals. In the match on Centre Court after Alexander Zverev’s exit, Djokovic needed 2 hours and 3 minutes. The 37-year-old Serb is now in the round of the best eight at Wimbledon for the 15th time and will be playing in a Grand Slam quarterfinal for the 60th time in total.
In the round of 16 of the French Open in Paris, Djokovic suffered a torn meniscus in his knee and did not compete in the quarterfinals. After an operation, he still felt ready for the London grass court classic.
Djokovic is aiming for his eighth Wimbledon title, which would put him level with Swiss record champion Roger Federer. He will now face Australian Alex de Minaur in the quarterfinals.
