The European Championship final in Berlin has its first participant. The Spanish national team beat France in a spectacular semi-final.
The Spanish national football team has reached the final of the European Championship. Coach Luis de la Fuente’s team won the first semi-final against Spain on Tuesday in Munich with 2:1 (2:1). Who their opponents will be next Sunday in Berlin’s Olympic Stadium will be decided on Wednesday in the match between England and the Netherlands. Spain, which knocked Germany out of the tournament in the quarter-finals, is aiming for its fourth European Championship title after 1964, 2008 and 2012.
Former Bundesliga professional Randal Kolo Muani put vice world champions France in the lead in the 9th minute. Super talent Lamine Yamal (21st) and Leipzig’s Dani Olmo (25th) turned the game around. Yamal replaced the Swiss Johan Vonlanthen as the youngest European Championship goalscorer at the age of 16 years and 362 days. Vonlanthen was 18 years and 141 days old when he scored in Switzerland’s 1:3 loss to France in 2004.
Euro 2024: France out despite leading
Real Madrid’s new signing Kylian Mbappé had set France’s lead with a cross. The star player appeared without a mask for the first time since breaking his nose in France’s opening match against Austria (1-0). However, the captain of the Équipe Tricolore could not prevent the defeat.
