With the Winter Games from February 4 to 20 and the subsequent Paralympics, China wants to demonstrate an example of how to deal with the corona pandemic. The roughly 3,000 athletes and media representatives who come to Beijing are also supposed to be strictly foreclosed for the entire duration of their stay.
A complete corona vaccination or a previous 21-day quarantine is a prerequisite for entering the Olympic security area. Anyone who is within the security area is tested daily and must always wear a mask.
The athletes can move between the venues in sealed high-speed trains that are not open to the public. Most of the venues are outside of Beijing.
With its zero corona strategy, China has so far been relatively successful in combating the pandemic. However, there have been a few corona cases again in the past few weeks. Lockdowns were then imposed on the megacities of Xi’an and Yuzhou.
