Bundesliga: BVB starts preparation with new coach Sahin

Before the first training session on Thursday, the new BVB coach welcomed his still decimated squad for a performance analysis. Another potential new signing is already in Dortmund.

Borussia Dortmund has started its preseason training with new head coach Nuri Sahin. Edin Terzic’s successor welcomed 15 professionals to the BVB training center for the obligatory performance diagnostics. The European Championship players and US international Giovanni Reyna, who will play at the Copa América, will only join the team later in the training. At the same time, the Dutch national team completed its warm-up session on the BVB grounds, behind closed doors, before the European Championship semi-final against England in the evening (9 p.m.).

Former international player Niklas Süle was the first professional to arrive at the training center early in the morning. The center-back had barely played for the Champions League finalists at the end of the last season due to obvious fitness problems. On Wednesday, BVB itself posted a picture of the 28-year-old on X (formerly Twitter) in a much better physical condition.

First training on Thursday – with Guirassy?

BVB will have their first training session on the pitch on Thursday. Serhou Guirrasy could also be there as another new signing. The former VfB Stuttgart striker arrived in Dortmund on Tuesday evening, was supposed to complete the obligatory medical check and then sign a four-year contract.

The transfer fee is set at 18 million euros. According to media reports, the 28-year-old striker from Guinea will also receive a hefty signing-on fee. Dortmund, who will no longer have veterans Marco Reus and Mats Hummels in the coming season, had already signed national defender Waldemar Anton from VfB.

In nine days, the still decimated BVB squad will travel to Thailand and Japan for a week to promote the Bundesliga abroad. Sahin’s squad will then play test matches in Bangkok and Osaka. The training camp will take place from August 1 to 9 in Bad Ragaz in Switzerland. The national team players will also be there then.
