The sudden death of kit manager Peter Miethe has caused dismay at the second division club. Preparations for the upcoming Bundesliga season have been interrupted.
After the tragic death of its long-time kit manager Peter Miethe, the second division football club 1. FC Kaiserslautern has cancelled its preseason training in Mals in South Tyrol. According to the club, the 62-year-old died in an accident at the training camp on Wednesday evening. “The FCK is in shock. Our hearts are broken,” the club said on social media.
Peter Miethe was part of the team for many years
Miethe worked for the Palatinate team for more than 20 years and was responsible for many matters relating to the team. “We mourn together with his family and friends the loss of a great person,” wrote last season’s cup finalist. At the same time, the club asked that “out of respect for the relatives, no further inquiries be made.”
The team led by new coach Markus Anfang was due to travel home to Kaiserslautern later today. The friendly match against Swiss first division club FC St. Gallen scheduled for next Sunday will most likely be cancelled.
Several clubs and the German Football League expressed their condolences via social media platforms. “Our condolences go out to his surviving relatives, his friends and the entire FCK family,” the DFL wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
