Russian skier Natalya Nepryaeva said that the final race of the Tour de Ski was the hardest for her of the season.
According to the athlete, she did not know what to expect, but she was able to pull herself together and give her last strength in the 10 km mass start free style. The Russian woman finished fourth on January 4, but this allowed her to keep the first place in the overall standings of the race. Nepryaeva became the first Russian skier to win the Tour de Ski, says Sport-Express.
“I was really very worried before this race, I didn’t know what to expect from myself. I felt good, I am glad that this year I was able to pull myself together and give out all that was left … That year, not everything went well for me in the last race. I am glad that now I was able to get together and endure. I am very pleased with myself in this race, this is the toughest race of the season, “Nepryaeva said in an interview with reporters after the mass start.
Earlier on the same day, the head coach of the Russian national ski team Elena Vyalbe commented on Natalya Nepryaeva’s victory in the overall Tour de Ski standings. She noted that she had been waiting for this victory from women for 11 years.
The best result so far for Russia among women was the second place. Nepryaeva twice became the second in the seasons 2018/19 and 2019/20.
