Phil Bauhaus actually wanted to finish the Tour de France this year. But the sprinter dropped out before the Alps.
After his second place in Nîmes, sprinter Phil Bauhaus has dropped out of the 111th Tour de France. This was announced by his team Bahrain-Victorious. Bauhaus did not compete in the stage from Saint-Paul-Trois-Châteaux to Superdévoluy. This means that the 30-year-old will not reach the finish line in his second Tour participation.
“It’s never easy to go home. He and the team sat down and decided that it was the best decision,” Bauhaus’ teammate Nikias Arndt told ARD. “There are no more sprints in the next few days. Realistically, you have to say there’s nothing left for him to gain.”
Last year, Bauhaus had given up the race on the 17th stage when he was exhausted. A year later, he did not even take part in the 17th stage. On Tuesday, the Bocholt native had stressed that he wanted to stay in the race until the end in Nice, despite the difficult Alpine stages.
