Real Madrid is taking action against racist hate speech on the Internet – with success. After insulting Antonio Rüdiger and Vinícius Junior, a man received a suspended prison sentence.
A person who racially insulted Real Madrid footballers Antonio Rüdiger and Vinícius Junior in an internet forum has been given an eight-month suspended prison sentence. As the Spanish record champions announced, the District Court No. 5 of Parla has passed a guilty verdict against the defendant.
The person in question had, under various pseudonyms, “directed serious racist attacks and insults against our players Vinícius Junior and Antonio Rüdiger” in the forum of the digital edition of the newspaper “Marca,” Real said in a club statement. He is now banned from participating in the forum for 20 months.
The defendant was found guilty of two violations of moral integrity. In the case of German national player Rüdiger, the crime was also “committed in disregard of his religion,” the club statement continued.

The suspended prison sentence was made contingent on the defendant participating in a program for equal treatment and combating discrimination. “Marca” published a letter of apology from the convicted man, who assured that he “regrets” and is “ashamed” of his actions.
“Real Madrid, which has appeared in the proceedings as a private plaintiff together with Vinícius Junior, will continue to work to protect the values of our club and to combat any racist behavior in the world of football and sport,” said the Champions League winner.
