In Spain, Álvaro Morata presents the European Championship trophy – but he hardly feels any love from his compatriots. This is also why the striker is returning to Italy and is expected to lead a top club to success.
European champion captain Álvaro Morata is moving from Atlético Madrid to AC Milan. The 31-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the northern Italians, plus an option for a further season. The striker, who led the Spanish team to European Championship triumph just under a week ago, will be scoring goals for Milan in Serie A and the Champions League in the future, after French football veteran Olivier Giroud left the club.
The departure from Atlético after two years had been hinted at – before and after the European Championship, Morata said several times that he felt unappreciated and sometimes even hated in Spain. Now he is returning to Italy, where he has already played twice for Juventus Turin. The striker will wear jersey number 7 at the Rossoneri, who have now confirmed the move.
The attacker has been underestimated time and again in his career, but has an impressive collection of trophies: Before the European Championship title, Morata won the Champions League and the league title twice with Real Madrid, the Europa League with Chelsea FC and the Serie A championship twice with Juve.
