The battle for the best starting positions is likely to be exciting. Before the knockout round, McLaren sets the pace.
Lando Norris set the fastest time in the last free practice session before the Formula 1 qualification today (4 p.m./Sky and RTL). The British McLaren driver relegated his teammate Oscar Piastri to second place in the one-hour session at the Hungaroring.
World champion Max Verstappen came in third. He was just under three tenths of a second behind Norris in his Red Bull. In the World Championship standings, Verstappen is 84 points ahead of Norris before the Hungarian Grand Prix this Sunday (3 p.m./Sky and RTL).
George Russell in his Mercedes finished fourth in the third free practice session, while his teammate Lewis Hamilton came in tenth. The British record world champion has already taken pole position nine times in Hungary and won the Grand Prix in Budapest eight times.
Even ahead of Hamilton, Nico Hülkenberg in the Haas finished eighth in training.
