Javier Mascherano, on fire: from the “biggest circus of my life” to the robbery suffered by the National Team

The technical director of the Argentine national team, Javier Mascheranoexpressed his anger after the embarrassment in the match against Morocco in the debut in the Olympic Games of Paris 2024 and safe: “It’s the biggest circus I’ve ever seen in my life”.

The match between the Under 23s and Morocco ended in a fiasco, as Argentina had equalised in the last play through midfielder Cristian Medina. After this, the match was suspended due to incidents and fan invasion and the referee disallowed the goal almost an hour and a half later for offside.

The game was eventually restarted, three minutes were played and Morocco ended up winning 2-1.

In this regard, Mascherano said: “I don’t know what happened. We were in the locker room for about an hour and a half, and at no point did they tell us what could happen.”and revealed that “The Moroccans didn’t want to continue playing either”.

“It’s a disgrace that they stop the game to play for three minutes, after an hour and a half,” continued the “Jefecito” during his statement on television.

On the other hand, he said that “yesterday they came into the training and robbed us. Thiago Almada’s watch, rings and everything were missing. We didn’t want to say anything.”

The national team will try to recover from this embarrassment in the organisation of the Olympic Games next Saturday, when it faces Iraq at 10 in the morning.

Mascherano’s team had come into this match after two previous friendlies on French soil: in the first they beat Petrus Flo, a team of French footballers without a club, 5-0, while in the last match they lost 1-0 to Guinea.

Morocco, for their part, had entered the Olympics as champions of the Under-23 African Cup of Nations and were well positioned in their quest to advance beyond the group stage for the second time in their history, after doing so in Munich in 1972.
