The driver question for the US team Haas from 2025 has been resolved. After Oliver Bearman comes Esteban Ocon. This is the first time that a Grand Prix winner will drive for Haas.
Frenchman Esteban Ocon will be the second regular driver for the Formula 1 racing team Haas from 2025. The US team announced the signing of the 27-year-old from Alpine before the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa-Francorchamps. Ocon will receive a contract for several years. He will be the team rival of Englishman Oliver Bearman (19), who comes from the Ferrari junior academy, in Nico Hülkenberg’s current team.
Hülkenberg (36) will drive for Kick Sauber from next season, which will become an Audi factory team a year later. The new goal of the second current Haas driver, Kevin Magnussen from Denmark, is still unknown.
“For me it was important that we have a driver with a strong Formula 1 background and, as a Grand Prix winner, Esteban undoubtedly fits that profile,” explained team owner Gene Haas. Ocon said of his move: “I will be joining a very ambitious team whose spirit, work ethic and undeniable upward trend have really impressed me.”
Haas team boss was once Ocon’s race engineer
Ocon made his Formula 1 debut in 2016 for the then Manor team. After stints at Force India and Renault, he joined Alpine in 2021. However, he did not get a new contract with the French team.
“I have obviously known his talent for a long time and our personal history goes back to Esteban’s first time in a Formula 1 car – I was his race engineer at Lotus at the time,” recalled Haas team boss Ayao Komatsu. “The experience he brings, not only based on his own talent but also from working for a factory team, will be an advantage as we grow as an organization.”
