Formula 1: Where is Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz headed?

Since February 1st, Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari has been finalized. Since then, Carlos Sainz has been trying to make the right decision about his future. The choice is complicated.

Spaniard Carlos Sainz is still pondering his future in Formula 1. “My future is still being discussed and analyzed very carefully. There are changes in every team every week that I look at. I will continue to give myself time to analyze,” said Sainz on the sidelines of the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa-Francorchamps. He also could not say whether there would be anything to announce on his own behalf before or after Formula 1’s summer break. After the race in Spa, the premier class of motorsport will not return until the end of August in Zandvoort.

At the same time, Sainz ruled out taking a break. “A sabbatical is not on my mind at all,” he said, looking ahead to next season. “I’d rather go to a midfield team and help them find a way.”

Sainz joined Ferrari as Sebastian Vettel’s successor for the 2021 season. The three-time Grand Prix winner will have to leave the Italians at the end of this year to make way for record world champion Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes.

Audi, Williams or Alpine?

The 29-year-old reportedly has several options for next season, but has been struggling with a decision for months. Sainz could move to Kick Sauber in 2025 as Nico Hülkenberg’s teammate, which will start as an Audi factory team in 2026. Alpine and Williams are also possible options. However, Kick Sauber, Williams and Alpine are currently in the last three places in the Constructors’ World Championship.

“My best option for next year would be a car that can win the world championship. The probability of that is slim, but that has always been my goal,” admitted Sainz. “If that doesn’t happen, I will choose what is best for my immediate future.”
