Formula 1 in Belgium: Alpine team boss Famin resigns

Mick Schumacher is considered a candidate for the second Formula 1 cockpit at Alpine from 2025. But things have been going well for the French team for a long time. The team boss has now announced his retirement in Spa.

The restructuring of the French Formula 1 team Alpine continues. Five weeks after Flavio Briatore (74) was appointed chief advisor to the racing team in crisis, Bruno Famin has announced his departure as team boss. The 62-year-old Frenchman announced his resignation at the Belgian Grand Prix until the end of August.

He then wants to concentrate on his role as Vice President of Motorsport. Briton Oliver Oakes (36), team boss of Hitech, which is represented in Formula 2, Formula 3 and Formula 4, is being considered as his successor at Alpine.

Famin himself did not want to comment on the question of succession at the luxury sports car brand. Alpine, in turn, announced that the new boss would be announced at the race track “in due course”. The French team is considering Mick Schumacher as the second regular driver for 2025. Pierre Gasly has already secured his place.

Planned as an interim solution

Alpine is in crisis in Formula 1. The racing team, a Renault subsidiary, is only third from last in the constructors’ championship, which is decisive for the distribution of bonuses. A few weeks ago, Renault CEO Luca de Meo hired Briatore, Michael Schumacher’s former team boss at Benetton, as an advisor.

The Alpine factory team is also on the verge of becoming a customer team due to the high financial costs. Mercedes is repeatedly mentioned as a future engine partner.

Famin had only been planned as an interim solution for the Formula 1 team Alpine. As Vice President for Motorsport, he took over from the then team boss Otmar Szafnauer a year ago after the Belgian Grand Prix.
