Olympic Games in Paris: Despite cross-country fall: Reiter Wahler starts in show jumping

Christoph Wahler falls off his horse. One day later he is riding again. That only happens at the Olympics.

Despite his fall in the cross-country, event rider Christoph Wahler will take part in the final jumping competition this Monday. The German team will receive an additional 200 penalty points for this. As 14th in the ranking with a total of 278.90 penalty points, the trio only has a theoretical chance of winning a medal. Before the team jumping, Great Britain leads with 82.50 penalty points.

Wahler’s participation is only possible due to a special feature of the Olympic regulations. While in all other eventing competitions a fall means disqualification for the entire competition, at the Games it is possible to ride again the next day after a positive veterinary examination. Wahler’s horse Carjatan passed this vet check early on Monday morning. However, Wahler is disqualified for the individual competition.

In the individual competition, Michael Jung from Horb and Chipmunk are in the lead going into the final jumping competition and would win gold with two faultless rounds. Julia Krajewski from Warendorf is in 14th place with Nickel.
