Style criticism
Toni Kroos’ haircut has always been special – but now the former football professional has gone too far: At the weekend he showed off a bleached mohawk.
Undercut, soldier’s cut, mohawk: no one knows exactly what Toni Kroos’ haircut should be called. But German men’s magazines and sports journals have always agreed that it is “casual”, “smart” and even “stylish”. Kroos’ hairstyle represents the consistency that also characterizes his game.
He has been wearing it like this for seven years now – if anything, the former international player has only changed details. At the weekend, however, pictures emerged from an event in Berlin’s Admiralspalast that shook football Germany, at least a little: Toni Kroos, the style icon, the legend, has bleached his hair.
New hairstyle of Toni Kroos
At a launch event for his newly founded small-field football league “The Icon League”, Kroos surprised everyone with a new hairstyle: a platinum blonde mohawk on top with a “disconnected undercut” to the naturally light hair on the side of his head.
The blonde quiff is a break in style that coincides with the end of his professional career. Kroos is no longer Toni, the cross-passer, no longer the calming influence of the national team; he is beginning his transformation into a celebrity who no longer stands out through first-class football, but rather through sometimes daring styling.
“His hair is terrible”
The reactions on social media are divided. On Instagram, for example, the new hairstyle is being celebrated uncritically. “I love Toni Kroos’ hair,” it says there. On X (formerly Twitter), the feedback is more caustic. “Transformation to meth has begun,” writes one user. “His hair is terrible” and “One of the worst hairstyles I’ve ever seen” is the tenor of the criticism.
Last game
In the end, a dream bursts: The remarkable career of Toni Kroos in pictures
Kroos has not yet explained why he decided on the new style. But he should be able to deal with spiteful reactions, as he once made similarly sharp comments to Joshua Kimmich when the latter dared to show himself with sweaty and, by his standards, rather long hair. Kroos’ comment: “I’ll definitely visit the hairdresser again before the semi-finals.”
