Summer Games in Paris: Boys’ gold celebration with a slight delay

Michael Jung celebrated his fourth gold until Tuesday morning. Before that, there was a strange delay in the safety inspection.

Before the party began, Michael Jung had to open his bag at the security check and show the round metal piece. Better safe than sorry. The gold medal check meant that the eventing rider’s celebrations in the German House in Paris began with a slight delay. Half an hour before midnight, several hundred fans clapped and celebrated the successful rider, who later wore his fourth Olympic gold medal around his neck and his son Lio in his arms.

“The reception in the German House was fantastic,” enthused Jung the day after the triumph in the gardens of the Palace of Versailles and the party that followed in Paris. “It was a fantastic celebration. The arrival, the cheering, was really touching.” His family was there, except for his little daughter who was already in bed.

Extra carrots for Chipmunk

After the victory in the afternoon, it took “six to seven hours before I saw my family,” said Jung. They have a special meaning for him. The fact that “my son and daughter are here and I have seen them again and again gives me such positive energy and makes me incredibly happy.”

Meanwhile, Chipmunk was already resting in the stable. After the victory, he said he “kissed and hugged his horse several times.” The gelding also “got more carrots than usual.”
