Kai Häfner will end his career in the national handball team after the Olympic Games. Before then, he wants to repeat the success from Rio.
Handball player Kai Häfner is ending his career in the national team after the Olympic Games in France. “After careful consideration, I have decided that this will be my last tournament with the national team. It was over ten wonderful years with many great successes and moments that I will never forget. I am infinitely grateful for this time,” the 35-year-old told “Sport Bild”. The backcourt player wants to continue playing for TVB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga.
Häfner, who is replacing the injured Franz Semper at the Summer Games in Paris, made his debut in the DHB jersey in 2010. His greatest successes with the German team are the European Championship title in 2016 and the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro eight years ago.
Before he retires, Häfner wants to repeat his Olympic success in Brazil. After opening victories over Sweden and Japan, Germany’s handball players have the best chance of reaching the quarter-finals. The goal is a medal.
