Angelique Kerber ends her career: the successes of the tennis star

Angelique “Angie” Kerber wants to end her career as a tennis professional after participating in the Olympic Games. Kerber was born on January 18, 1988 in Bremen. She started playing tennis at the age of three. She turned professional in 2003 and has had impressive success since then. The 36-year-old has won 14 titles in the WTA, including three Grand Slam titles.

She won a silver medal at the 2016 Olympic Games. But the highlight of her career came in September 2016. After her victory at the US Open, Kerber reached another milestone: she was the first German to become number 1 in the world rankings since Steffi Graf.

Angelique Kerber does well at the Olympics

This Wednesday, after a tough battle, Angelique Kerber ended her magnificent tennis career without a medal at the Olympic Games. After three victories that were hardly thought possible, the former world number one lost the dramatic quarter-final in Paris to the Chinese Zheng Qinwen. In the third set, the German hopeful was still leading 4:1, but completely exhausted, she could not hold on to the lead.

This means that Kerber cannot crown her exceptional career with a medal coup. However, the 36-year-old from Kiel managed to make a fitting farewell with strong performances and a place in the round of the best eight, something that would have been impossible just a few days ago. She once again proved her class and, in particular, her great fighting spirit.
