FC Bayern summer tour: New contract: Kimmich feels “very comfortable” in Munich

Joshua Kimmich’s contract with FC Bayern expires in a year. In Seoul, he reacted positively to Uli Hoeneß’s words. He is going into his tenth season in Munich “full of energy”.

National soccer player Joshua Kimmich is open to talks with those in charge at FC Bayern Munich about a contract extension with the German record champions. The 29-year-old, whose contract only runs for one year, is certainly not thinking about leaving after the 2-1 friendly win against Tottenham Hotspur in Seoul.

“In general, you can always talk to each other sensibly. I think all doors are open for everyone,” said Kimmich on Bayern’s trip to South Korea when asked about a statement by honorary president Uli Hoeneß, who had recently said that Kimmich was a reasonable man with whom you could talk sensibly.

Children born in Munich, a house built

If there is no agreement for an extension, possibly also due to financial aspects, Kimmich could move on a free transfer in the summer of 2025. But that does not seem to be Kimmich’s plan. “In general, I feel very comfortable here. All my children were born here, we built here,” said family man Kimmich, who is about to start his tenth season in Munich.

Kimmich obviously wants to make a fresh start at FC Bayern and with FC Bayern after the titleless last season. “Of course, last season wasn’t that successful. That is not what Bayern Munich expects, and it is not what I expect myself to expect. Now I am very hungry and full of energy for the new season.”

Back in midfield in the first game under Kompany

Kimmich could also be pleased that the new coach Vincent Kompay is planning to play him in midfield again and not as a right-back. Against Tottenham, Kimmich played centrally in front of the defence alongside national team colleague Aleksandar Pavlovic. After the break, the double six was occupied by new signing João Palhinha and Konrad Laimer.

“In general, we have a lot of good players in that position. Let’s see how it all pans out in the end,” said Kimmich, who, like several other European Championship participants, only started preparing for the season this week. He enjoyed the test in the World Cup Stadium in Seoul: “I think the game was nice to watch. It went up and down.”
