Lukas Dauser hits the bar with his leg during his parallel bars exercise. This means that the Olympic medal he had been hoping for in Paris is gone. The 31-year-old is visibly disappointed.
World gymnastics champion Lukas Dauser did not win a medal on his special apparatus, the parallel bars, at the Olympic Games in Paris. 44 days after tearing a muscle bundle in his right biceps, the 31-year-old from Unterhaching failed to score flawlessly in a high-class final, scoring 13,700 points and taking seventh place. Germany’s Sportsman of the Year hit the bar with one of his legs during a turn.
As in 2021 in Tokyo, the Olympic champion was the Chinese Jingyuan Zou with 16,200 points. Silver went to Illia Kowtun from Ukraine with 15,500 points. Bronze went to team and all-around Olympic champion Shinnosuke Oka from Japan with 15,300 points.
He didn’t really feel comfortable on his favorite apparatus this time, Dauser told ZDF. “I don’t know exactly why. I was actually ready, but somehow I didn’t get into 100 percent mode to do my thing here. Maybe I put a little too much pressure on myself, I wanted a happy ending to my story,” explained the silver medalist from the 2021 Games. He has to “somehow swallow the pill now” and is still proud to have been there at all.
