Olympic Games: Pole vaulter Duplantis improves world record: 6.25 meters

Pole vault star Armand Duplantis not only wins another Olympic gold medal, he also sets another world record.

Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis has crowned his second Olympic victory with another world record. The 24-year-old cleared 6.25 metres in his third attempt at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis near Paris. That was one centimetre more than on April 20 at the Diamond League Meeting in Xiamen, China.

It was the ninth world record in Duplantis’ career. He had already secured his gold medal by jumping 6.00 meters. Duplantis, known only as “Mondo,” then set an Olympic record of 6.10 meters. The approximately 70,000 spectators enthusiastically celebrated the world and European champion at the end of the competition day with chants of “Mondo.”

The other competitors had long since become spectators by this point. Silver went to American Sam Kendricks with 5.95 meters, bronze went to Greek Emmanouil Karalis with 5.90 meters. The German pole vaulters Oleg Zernikel and Bo Kanda Lita Baehre shared ninth place with 5.70 meters each.
