Surreal scenes played out on Monday evening on the Place de la Concorde in the center of Paris. Four German basketball players stood on a small field in front of steep stands, where thousands of people cheered them on. For whatever reason, the stadium director played a song by Culcha Candela while the four women gave high fives to the Spanish King Felipe and basketball icon Dirk Nowitzki. Before that, the two had watched in the front row as the German team won the gold medal in the 3×3 basketball at the Summer Olympics in the final against Spain.
