Marcelo Gallardo is already putting together the new River: who will leave?

The brand new coach of River, Marcelo Gallardois already planning his team to face this second half of 2024 and some players could leave the “Millonario” in search of minutes.

With the officialization of his arrival at the club from Núñez this Monday, the technical director from Merlo begins to plan his team for this second part of the year where the guns will be focused on the Libertadores Cup of America, a competition that in the immediate future will have him facing Talleres de Córdoba in the round of 16.

Therefore, the first thing that Gallardo demanded from the management was the arrival of high-ranking players and the first to arrive was German Pezzellaa defender who emerged in River and world champion with the Argentine National Team in Qatar 2022. The 33-year-old footballer would be joined by the midfielder Maximiliano Meza and the right side Fabricio Bustos Although, for both, negotiations are underway but not closed.

The arrival of these three players would make others lose ground in the consideration and Wednesday will be a key day as the final list for the Copa Libertadores must be presented to the Argentine Football Association (AFA), with a maximum of five changes.

Those who would have the best chance of being removed from the list of registered players would be defenders Franco Carboni, Uruguayan Sebastián Boselli and midfielder Felipe Peña Biafore. The young Uruguayan is one of the players who can be dispensed with due to an overpopulation of players in that sector of the playing field.

The situation of Carboni and Peña Biafore is somewhat peculiar since they arrived in this transfer market from Inter Milan and Lanús, respectively. Both were expressly requested by the previous coach, Martín Demichelis, and that would be one of the arguments of the management to support Gallardo’s decision to remove them from the list of good faith.

As for the midfielder, Demichelis had requested that he return from his loan from Lanús for six months before it ends and, now, the new coach would remove him from the list for the Copa Libertadores but would keep him in mind to stay and fight for a place. It remains to be seen whether the player wants to continue at River or go out on loan again to gain minutes.

For his part, Carboni arrived to compete for Enzo Díaz’s position and get the experience he was not getting at Inter Milan, but it seems that the ‘Millonario’ will not be the place where he will exploit all his potential as he intends and he could leave River without having officially added minutes.

Another player who would be left out of the Copa Libertadores list and out of Gallardo’s consideration would be defender Federico Gattoni. The former San Lorenzo player arrived this transfer market on loan from Sevilla in Spain, but two poor performances with River were enough for the coach to decide not to take him into account and, unusually, his future could be with the ‘Ciclón’, from where he left in a controversial manner.
