“Renata Voracova is in the same detention center as Djokovic, with other tennis players, in Melbourne,” the ministry told the French AFP agency in an email.
The ministry stated that it was protesting against this retention and that Voracova had agreed to leave the country and not participate in the first Grand Slam of the year “since her training possibilities are limited.”
In an interview with Czech newspapers DNES and Sport on Friday, Voracova spoke about her experience at that center.
“I’m in a room and I can’t go anywhere”stated the 38-year-old doubles player. “You can’t half open my window more than a few inches”, he claimed.
“There are guards everywhere, including under my window, which is pretty funny. Maybe they think I’m going to jump in and run away.”he added.
“They bring me food and there is a guard in the hall. Everything is rationed. I feel a bit like in a prison,” he said.
Djokovic, who had opposed mandatory vaccination, entered Australia this week thanks to a medical waiver to the country’s strict restrictions in the event of a pandemic.
But the world number one was placed in a holding center in Melbourne and his visa was canceled pending a court decision, expected on Monday.
Djokovic is seeking his record-setting 21st Grand Slam title in Australia, which begins on January 17. Voracova, 38, a stunt specialist, also has an exemption, having recently recovered from Covid-19, the Czech daily Sport reported.
Ranked 81st in doubles, Voracova has already played a match in the WTA tournament, Melbourne Summer Set, alongside Poland’s Katarzyna Piter this week, but lost in the first round.
According to the newspaper, his repeal was “reassessed” later.
The ministry stated that the Czech consulate general in Sydney is dealing with the situation.
