The American Quincy Hall won gold in the 400 meters of the Olympic Games of Paris 2024with a final sprint that stole the victory at the finish line from the British Matthew Hudson-Smith.
The Briton headed into the final straight at the Stade de France after a good start that he knew how to manage, but Hall chased him from his right to reach the finish line with a time of 43.40, the fifth best of all time.
Hudson-Smith improved her European record with 43.44, and Zambia’s Muzala Samukonga took bronze in 43.74.
At 26 years old, and after winning a bronze medal at the Budapest 2023 World Championships, Quincy Hall finally won the first Olympic medal of his career in Paris.

The night was disappointing for Granada’s Kirani James, who had come with the ambition of repeating in Paris the gold he won at the age of 19 in London 2012.
Kirani, who was in good form, with a silver medal at the Eugene 2022 World Championships and having won the Diamond League in the distance in 2022 and 2023, had a difficult start that he was unable to overcome and finished only fifth, with a time of 43.87.
