The German team finished the Olympic Games in Paris among the top ten nations in the medal table, but again worsened compared to Tokyo. With 12 gold medals, 13 silver medals and 8 bronze medals, the team of the German Olympic Confederation (DOSB) finished in 10th place.
The association thus achieved its minimum goal. However, the yield was not only lower than in Tokyo 2021 with 37 medals, but also worse than at all other Summer Games since reunification.
Tenth place in the national ranking is also slightly worse than three years ago in Japan, when Germany finished ninth. At the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Summer Games, the German team was among the best six nations.
These sports won the most Olympic medals
The most successful sports were horse riding (five medals, four of which were gold) and canoeing (six medals, two of which were gold). The German team also performed better than last time in the core Olympic sports of athletics and swimming.
The results of the fencers, wrestlers, sailors and sport shooters, who were left without a medal, were disappointing. The German Cycling Association (BDR) also fell well short of expectations, winning two medals.
