There was speculation about it for a long time, but now the transfers of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from FC Bayern to Manchester United are official. The Dutchman says an emotional goodbye.
Defenders Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui are moving from German record champions FC Bayern Munich to Manchester United. Both clubs announced this. The clubs did not provide any information on the transfer terms.
De Ligt is said to bring the Munich club a fixed transfer fee of 45 million euros, Mazraoui 15 million euros. Bonus payments are also to be added.
This is what the FC Bayern board says
In Manchester, de Ligt receives a contract until summer 2029 with an option for a further year. Mazraoui signed until summer 2028, also with an option to extend for an additional year.
“Matthijs is a player who always gives his all and leaves his heart on the pitch – the fans will never forget his decisive tackle in the Champions League knockout match against Paris St. Germain. In the same way, Nous has always delivered a reliable performance here for two years,” said Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl.
De Ligt with farewell words on Instagram
The 25-year-old de Ligt said goodbye to the Bayern fans on Instagram with emotional words. “It was a great honor for me to have been able to play for a wonderful club like FC Bayern for two years,” he wrote. He wished the club many more titles.
De Ligt moved from Juventus Turin to Munich two years ago for a transfer fee of around 70 million euros. However, the central defender had not established himself as an undisputed regular player at Bayern.
Full-back Mazraoui also moved from Ajax Amsterdam to Munich in the summer of 2022. The Moroccan international was free at the time, but his performances were too inconsistent. In Manchester, the duo will face their former coach at Ajax Amsterdam, Erik ten Hag.
