Around six kilometers from the finish line, there was a mass crash involving Demi Vollering on the fifth stage. Despite her injuries, she is looking good for her continued participation in the Tour de France.
After her serious fall, defending champion Demi Vollering is expected to start the sixth stage of the women’s Tour de France. “It looks good that Vollering will be able to continue the Tour on Friday,” the Dutch cyclist’s team announced on X.
On Thursday, during the fifth stage, around six kilometers from the finish, there was a mass crash in which Vollering was involved, among others. According to her team, she suffered minor bruises and superficial abrasions on her lower back and buttocks. “Considering how quickly I fell, I’m glad I didn’t break any bones,” Vollering is quoted as saying on X. The defending champion lost the yellow jersey on the stage.
The overall lead was then taken over by Katarzyna Niewiadoma from Poland. Vollering fell back to ninth place and is 1:19 minutes behind.
For the cyclists, the sixth stage will take them from Remiremont to Morteau over 159 kilometers. At the weekend, the two mountain stages with the final climb to Alpe d’Huez are the highlights of the tour.
