Christoph Kramer announces his departure from Borussia Mönchengladbach

The early separation of football world champion Christoph Kramer and Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach has been finalized after lengthy negotiations. As the club announced on Friday, the 33-year-old’s contract, which ran until June 30, 2025, has been terminated. “During his time with us, Chris has become a real identification figure for this club and has been one of the faces that have shaped Borussia Mönchengladbach in recent years, and we thank him for that,” said sporting director Roland Virkus.

Kramer played for a total of ten years in the Lower Rhine region and for Bayer Leverkusen for two years in between. Since 2018, he has also worked as a TV expert for ZDF at World and European Championships and is considered one of the station’s best experts.

In terms of sport, however, the defensive midfielder is in a tough position under Borussia’s coach Gerardo Seoane and faces great competition within the team. Immediately after the end of the last season, Kramer was told in several conversations that his already reduced playing time would probably not increase. In the past season, Kramer only made 16 competitive appearances and was only in the starting eleven twice.

Initial talks about an early separation probably did not lead to a result, partly because of his lucrative contract. Now, shortly before the start of the new season, an agreement has been reached. Nothing has been disclosed about the terms and conditions or a possible new club. “I have been driving to Borussia Park with a smile on my face for ten years and have never made a secret of what this club, its fans and its employees mean to me,” says Kramer. “The journey with Borussia was incredible and unique. Unfortunately, it is now over, but I am also looking forward to what lies ahead,” says Kramer.
