According to media reports, the father of Spanish European football champion Lamine Yamal was released from hospital two days after the knife attack. According to reports, he was doing well. Mounir Nasraoui was attacked late Wednesday evening at his home in the city of Mataró, around 30 kilometers northeast of Barcelona, as the newspaper “La Vanguardia” and other Spanish media reported, citing the police. According to reports, Nasraoui suffered two stab wounds in the abdomen and one in the chest during the attack. He was taken to a hospital in Badalona, a suburb of Barcelona, in a critical condition, mainly due to severe blood loss, and was initially placed in intensive care. Yamal visited his father in the hospital on Thursday.
Investigations and arrests
The arrested men are accused of attempted manslaughter. According to reports, the attack was preceded by an argument in the afternoon in Yamal’s Rocafonda district. A child threw water from a balcony onto Yamal’s father. This led to a scuffle that had to be broken up by the police. “La Vanguardia” wrote, citing the police, that Nasraoui said that those involved in the argument had “set a trap” for him. They had ordered him to a parking lot to make peace. There they attacked him without warning. Why the perpetrators attacked him was still unknown.
Yamal, who plays for FC Barcelona, won the European Championship with the Spanish national team. He grew up in Rocafonda, a district of Mataró that is dominated by immigrants, mainly from Africa.
