The Professional League analyzes delaying the start of the tournament

In principle the tournament It was going to start on February 4, but at the request of the clubs, the date for the start of the contest will be 11, a week later.

At the request of some clubs was added that of Unionized Argentine Soccer Players (FAA), since in the last days more than 200 cases were registered in the different First Division campuses.

This would also cause altering the match schedule, which was already designed, given that after the Professional League Cup the league tournament will be played.

The recess between one competition and another was two weeks, but now it would become only one, since in the middle some Argentine teams will also face the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana.

In addition, this year the competitions will be cut in the month of October, since there is the World Cup in Qatar, which will be played from mid-November to mid-December.

The final of the Professional League Cup is scheduled for Sunday, May 15.

That date had already aroused controversy among the clubs, since that same week the teams will play on dates 5 and 6 of the Copa Sudamericana and Libertadores, which would be the definition of the group stage of that tournament.

The fixture draw will take place tomorrow at 3:00 p.m., with the presence of most of the top leaders of the First Division clubs, some of them virtually.

This modification in the calendar would also cause the transfer market to remain open for another week, so that the clubs can continue incorporating players.

In which the Professional League must also agree is with television, since due to the change of dates, the programming will suffer alterations.

The fixture process can be followed live and is scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm at the offices of the Professional Football League, located in Puerto Madero.

The development of the tournament foresees that the 28 teams will be divided into two zones and after a round in which everyone will face each other, the best four from each group will qualify for the elimination phase.

In addition to the 13 matches in the first phase, there will be an interzonal match, most of which will be “classics”.

The eliminatory phase will have direct matches, in the stadium of the best classified, while the semis and the final will be played on a neutral court.

For the organization chart of the fixture, pairs of teams will be assembled by rivalry criteria (Boca with River, Racing and Independiente, San Lorenzo with Huracán and so on) so that those clubs are in opposite areas.
